End of Life Care
When the end of life is near and comfort is needed, compounding can provide specialized care and medications by working with Hospice. A common end of life symptom is pain, however bed sores, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, and anxiety can all be common as well. By using sublingual troches or drops, medicine can be administered by dissolving in the mouth and being absorbed by blood vessels under the tongue. Creams and transdermal gels are also alternate options for treating symptoms directly at the source of the problem. With pain medication, it is vital that the right strength be administered to keep the patient pain free. Through compounding, a medication can be designed and made to meet the exact dosage needed to provide dignity and personalized care when dealing with end of life patients.
